RenaultDPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter. In Dutch, we call this a soot filter. Exhaust gases flow through the filter, which traps the soot particles.
The collected soot is burned at a high temperature. This is called regeneration. Ash that accumulates in the filter is not removed by regeneration. A separate cleaning process may be necessary for that.
A properly functioning particulate filter reduces the emission of soot particles. If the filter becomes clogged, the exhaust gases cannot flow as freely. This can lead to malfunctions or reduced engine power.
A warning about the particulate filter does not always mean that the filter needs to be replaced. Have the cause checked first. This will clarify whether maintenance, cleaning, or replacement is necessary.
Compare the OEM or part number with that of the old filter. An OEM number is the vehicle manufacturer's part number. Also check the truck model, engine type, and emission class, such as Euro 6.
Also, pay attention to the dimensions, connections, and condition of the product. The brand or model alone isn't always enough to choose the right filter. Be sure to check which parts are included.
For maintenance and cleaning, follow the vehicle manufacturer's instructions. How often a particulate filter requires maintenance depends, among other things, on the vehicle and how it is used.
If malfunctions occur repeatedly, have the cause investigated as well. Simply replacing the filter will not resolve a problem elsewhere in the system. A repair shop can determine what repairs are needed.
