Brake Cylinder

A truck brake cylinder converts air pressure into braking force. This component helps activate the brakes. The correct type depends on the braking system and its location on the truck.

At Philevi Truckparts, you’ll find brake cylinders for DAF, Iveco, MAN, Mercedes, Scania , and Volvo. These parts are part of the braking system. Compare the part number and model to select the right brake cylinder.

What does a brake cylinder do?

In an air brake, air pressure pushes against a diaphragm or piston in the brake cylinder. This moves a rod that actuates the brake. A diaphragm is a flexible component that absorbs the air pressure.

There are different types of brake cylinders. Some operate only the service brake while driving. A combined spring-loaded brake cylinder also functions as a parking brake. These versions are not simply interchangeable.

Why is a brake cylinder important?

A properly functioning brake cylinder helps ensure that the brakes work reliably. Leaks, damage, or wear can interfere with braking performance.

Is one of your brakes not working properly? If so, have the entire system checked. The problem could also be in the lines, connections, or other parts of the air system.

What should you look for when making your choice?

First, check the original part number, also known as the OEM number. Also note the make, vehicle model, and location of the brake cylinder. A left-side version may differ from a right-side version.

Also compare the type of brake cylinder, the mounting, and the air connections. The size and stroke must be compatible with the brake system. The stroke is the distance the rod can move. Therefore, having the same shape alone is not enough to determine whether a part will fit.

Applications in Maintenance and Repair

During maintenance, have the brake cylinder, lines, and connections checked for leaks, rust, and damage. After replacement, also have a professional test the brakes to ensure they are working properly.

A spring brake cylinder contains a strong, tensioned spring. Do not open this component yourself. Have any work performed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a part will fit?

Compare the OEM number on your old part with the number listed for the product. If you're unsure, send us a photo or the VIN via WhatsApp, and we'll check it for you.

"New" comes directly from the manufacturer and includes a manufacturer's warranty. "Refurbished" has been rebuilt and is more affordable than "new." "Used" has been removed from a truck and is the most affordable option.
