Steering System

A truck's steering system transmits the movement of the steering wheel to the wheels. Components such as the steering gearbox, the steering column, and the steering links all work together to achieve this. Power steering helps make steering easier with less effort.

At Philevi Truckparts, you’ll find steering system parts for DAF, Iveco, MAN, Mercedes, Renault, Scania , and Volvo. Check out our selection of steering gears, power steering pumps, and steering rods, among other items. Compare the part number and model to choose the right part.

What does the steering system do?

The steering system ensures that the wheels respond when you turn the steering wheel. The steering column transmits the movement to the steering gear. This movement is then transmitted to the wheels via the steering links.

In a hydraulic system, the steering pump supplies pressurized oil for power steering. This makes steering require less effort. The exact configuration varies by truck.

Why is the steering system important?

A properly functioning steering system helps the driver steer the truck accurately. Play, wear, or leaks can interfere with its operation.

Does the truck handle heavily, or does the steering feel different than usual? If so, have the entire system inspected. The cause could be, for example, the steering gear, the power steering pump, the connections, or the tires. So a single issue doesn’t always indicate a single defective part.

What should you look for when making your choice?

Check the original part number, also known as the OEM number. Also, compare the brand, vehicle type, and model of the steering system. Parts for the same brand do not always fit every model.

For each part, pay attention to the mounting, dimensions, and connections. For a steering rod, for example, the length and connections are important. Also check the condition of the part. The selection includes, among other items, remanufactured steering gears. These are steering gears that have been repaired for reuse.

Applications in Maintenance and Repair

During maintenance, have the steering rods, joints, and fasteners checked for play and damage. For a hydraulic system, the inspection should also include the lines, the oil level, and any possible leaks.

Have the replacement performed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Depending on the part, it may be necessary to bleed the system or check the wheel alignment. After the work is completed, have the steering system tested.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a part will fit?

Compare the OEM number on your old part with the number listed for the product. If you're unsure, send us a photo or the VIN via WhatsApp, and we'll check it for you.

"New" comes directly from the manufacturer and includes a manufacturer's warranty. "Refurbished" has been rebuilt and is more affordable than "new." "Used" has been removed from a truck and is the most affordable option.
