RenaultThe clutch plate has a layer of material on both sides that provides grip. The pressure plate presses the plate against the flywheel. Because of this grip, the plate rotates with the flywheel and transmits power to the transmission.
When the clutch is disengaged, the plate is released. The engine can then continue to run without driving the transmission. When pulling away, the connection is gradually reestablished.
The material on the clutch plate wears down with use. If there is significant wear, the clutch may start to slip. The engine RPM will then increase, while the truck does not accelerate proportionally. Oil or grease on the plate can also reduce traction.
Vibrations or difficulty shifting gears can have various causes. Therefore, have the entire clutch system inspected before replacing any parts.
Compare the OEM or part number with that of the old plate. An OEM number is the vehicle manufacturer's part number. Also check the truck model, engine, and transmission type.
Also, pay attention to the diameter and the teeth in the center of the plate. Those teeth must fit onto the transmission shaft. The plate must also fit the pressure plate and the flywheel. When purchasing a clutch kit, check which parts are included.
When replacing the clutch, also have the pressure plate, the pressure plate, and the flywheel inspected. Is there oil on the old clutch plate? If so, have the source of the leak investigated. Simply installing a new clutch plate will not fix a leak.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions during installation. The panel must be positioned in the correct direction and orientation. A repair shop can determine which parts and adjustments are needed.
